According to statistics from the General Administration of Vietnam Customs, 18,279 original vehicles were imported in August, with an import value of US$385.4 million. This is the month that Vietnam has ever imported the highest number of cars.
In the first eight months of this year, Vietnam imported 96,239 original vehicles, a year-on-year decrease of 8.8%; the import value was US$2.25 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 4%.
Vietnam's largest auto import markets are all in Asia, such as Indonesia, Thailand and China.
It is worth noting that in August alone, 10,360 cars were imported from Indonesia. Therefore, in the first eight months of this year, Indonesia overtook Thailand to become Vietnam's largest car supplier.
By the end of August, Vietnam had imported 38,469 original vehicles from Indonesia with an import value of US$556 million; imported 37,748 vehicles from Thailand with an import value of US$749.3 million; and imported 13,198 vehicles from China with an import value of US$535.87 million. The above three markets accounted for 93.66% of the total imported original vehicles in Vietnam.
