Dealers surveyed by Sputnik said that the Russian auto market may shrink by 50%-70% in 2022 due to insufficient supply.
The press office of the Russian "Automobile Professional Center" distribution group stated: "Because of the insufficient supply of new cars, sales this year may decrease by 50-70%."
The press office of the "Autohome" company pointed out that "it is expected that this year's sales will drop by 58%-65% year-on-year to 600,000 vehicles."
Alexey Starikov, deputy general manager of the new car sales department of Russia's Avilon Automobile Group, said that it is difficult to accurately predict the extent of the shrinkage of the Russian auto market. The problem is that sales figures are affected by parallel imports, which cannot yet be assessed.
He further said: "However, judging from the current situation, it is clear that the shortage of cars will continue until the end of the year, and sales will still decrease. There is no new trend in the market at present."
The Russian Automobile Dealers Association confirmed this previous forecast, showing that
The Russian new car market will shrink by 60% in 2022.
According to data from the European Enterprise Association, in 2021 Russia will sell 1.67 million cars and new light commercial vehicles. In the first 10 months of this year, sales fell 60.8% year-on-year to 502,500 vehicles.
