During the seven-day National Day holiday, a total of more than 15,000 vehicles were loaded and exported at Shanghai Yangshan Port, of which new energy vehicles accounted for more than 80%.
At 1:30 on October 7th, after completing the border inspection procedures, the cargo ship "Oriental Scandinavia" from Hong Kong, China slowly left the Yangshan Deepwater Port. The 1698 MG cars loaded in the container will go to sea with the ship . At the Haitong Nangang Wharf at the other end of the Donghai Bridge, 5,000 Tesla cars are on the ro-ro ship of the Italian-registered "California Shengshi". Both batches of vehicles will be bound for the Belgian port of Zeebrugge for transit to various European countries.

Yangshan Border Inspection Station said that during the National Day holiday, the station inspected a total of 166 entry and exit (port) international voyages, an increase of 66% month-on-month and a year-on-year increase of 20.3%. Every day, commodity vehicles are loaded and exported from Yangshan Port by container transportation or ro-ro transportation.
In 2021, my country's auto exports will reach 2.015 million units, doubling compared to 10 years ago and achieving leapfrog development. Since the beginning of this year, my country's auto exports have grown rapidly, hitting a record high for the same period in history. Among them, new energy vehicles have led the export growth. According to statistics from the China Automobile Association, in the first eight months of this year, my country exported a total of 340,000 new energy vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 97.4%.
Different from the previous export through ro-ro ships, the export of automobiles through container ships has gradually become the norm at Yangshan Port.
Since July, COSCO SHIPPING has installed 2 to 4 vehicles into container containers of different sizes through the "vehicle support technology", and has provided "end-to-end" services for the export of complete vehicles with the help of its European freighters. The business model is designed to meet my country's growing demand for automobile exports. Compared with the traditional ro-ro transportation mode, container transportation has more sufficient space supply, more efficient vehicle packing, and faster full-link coverage, which can effectively cope with the current tight ro-ro shipping capacity and difficult to find space. Insufficient dedicated berths, limited route resources and higher requirements for car transport.
After staged trial operation, the business model has gradually matured, and the economy has become more prominent. The latest Shanghai Export Container Freight Index shows that the container freight rate from Shanghai to Europe dropped to US$3,877 per TEU, down 8.8% month-on-month and 48.2% year-on-year. And ro-ro rates continue to be at historically high levels.
In order to help the export of automobiles and escort the economic development, Yangshan Border Inspection Station carried out a special investigation, and adopted a "one ship, one policy" customs clearance guarantee plan for outbound, outbound, ro-ro operations and container operations. Ships moving berths at domestic ports are exempt from entry and exit border inspection procedures to improve the efficiency of ships berthing and unberthing between domestic ports; for ships that have been berthing less than 24 hours, complete entry and exit border inspection procedures at one time, and respond to the ship's "fast in and fast out". At the same time, it will strengthen the management of ships during their stay in port, and adopt a combination of video surveillance, on-site inspections and drone cruises to ensure the safety of ro-ro operations and container loading operations throughout the process.
Zhou Jiajie, director of the frontier inspection department of Yangshan Border Inspection Station, said that for container liners with short time in port, relatively fixed crew members and no crew changes, providing convenient customs clearance measures will help improve the export efficiency of small batches of vehicles. The normalization of car companies and the flexible export demand of multiple batches.
