Different axle positions
A center axle trailer, as the name suggests, places the axle in the middle because the axle is located in the middle of the trailer and cannot maintain balance alone. When parking independently, additional support rods are required. A full trailer, on the other hand, has two axles located on both sides of the vehicle, which can maintain balance when parked independently. So we distinguish between mid axle trailers and full axle trailers mainly based on the position of the axles.
The position of the towing hook is different
The position where a full trailer and a center axle trailer are connected to the main vehicle is not the same. The full trailer is connected to the main vehicle through a towing hook installed on the main vehicle frame, while the towing hook connected to the main vehicle by the center axle trailer is located below the frame and indirectly connected to the main vehicle frame.
Because the axle of a center axle trailer is located in the middle, the main vehicle towing a center axle trailer must bear a portion of the weight of the trailer, but this proportion is generally not too large, and the main weight is still on the center axle. On the other hand, a full trailer only bears the horizontal force from the trailer and does not need to bear the vertical weight of the full trailer.
Different reverse operation
The front axle of the full trailer is equipped with a bogie that can rotate in the direction of the main vehicle, which has the advantage of flexible steering and is more suitable for turning and turning vehicles on narrow road sections. But at the same time, the drawbacks are also very obvious, and reversing is very troublesome. The driving skills required of drivers are extremely high, which is even more challenging than semi trailers.
The popular mid axle models on the market today, although similar in appearance to full trailers, are actually completely different. Firstly, its axles are concentrated in the middle of the carriage. Secondly, it does not have a bogie, and the traction device cannot be moved up or down. Because of this, a portion of the weight of the central axle trailer must be borne by the tractor. Once it leaves the tractor, the trailer will lose its center of gravity and "collapse" on the road. Overall, the center axle is more like a semi trailer, so it is much simpler to reverse than a full trailer.
The biggest difference between the two is that the center axle model can legally go on the road, while the full trailer cannot go on the highway. With this in mind, the center axle will undoubtedly become a replacement product for full trailers and a hot model in the sedan market.
Is the center axle trailer the previous full trailer? There is no relationship between the two!
